social issues involving school essay

Due to the corona virus outbreak everyone has to stay home as much as possible and just recently their has been a shelter in place order from the governor of Maryland. We have to participate in online learning that involves a lot of writing and reading from both the teachers and students. The people who do not like, or are not good at reading or writing are struggling the most, but this is also a chance for them to improve their capabilities and maybe find a subject or topic they actually like reading or writing about. for those people who like reading and writing (like me) may be finding school easier then it used to be sense it centers around one of their academic strengths. Because of the reading and writing focus the over all workload for both the teachers and students has increased. Sense we cannot tell our teachers the answers or physically show it to them we have to write it out, o find a way to send a copy digitally. Those people who are not good with technology or are having i

Athens plague VS. Corona virus

The sickness in Athens was brought from a foreign land by ship, just as the Corona virus was brought to America from China on a cruise ship.  The Athenians were stuck together in close quarters which made the plague spread faster, but we independently isolating ourselves from each other in order to decrease the spread of Corona virus. The plague symptoms were fever, red inflamed eyes, Diarrhea, and violent ulcers. The corona virus symptoms are fever, and stomach problems including diarrhea. dead bodies littered Athens, but know sick people are staying home and if they are in the vulnerable category they litter the hospitals. People do not walk around as if they were half dead know; we stay home and rest or go to hospitals for treatment. In Athens the plague lead to a corruption in morals values and standards, and in our society some people are going threw the stores and taking all the toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and soap that other people need. They are not thinking of others, but mo

Darius, Philip, and Alexander

Darius was born too Arsames of Ostanes and Sisygambis. He was born in 381 BC and lived until July 330 BC. Darius III also know as Codommanus was a Persian king who reigned from 336-330 BC. He was the last king of the Achaemenid dynasty. He was in the collateral part of the family. He was declared king by the confidential Minister of the previous king of Persia. The minister has killed the last two kings of Persia, Artaxerxes III and Arses. When Darius became independent from the minister attempted to kill Darius, but Darius tricked him into drinking the poison the minister had intended for him.  Philip II created the League of Corinth to liberate Greek city-states from Achaemenid rule in 336, he sent a group of militia to into Asia Minor. In July he was killed possibly by Darius's command. Alexander the Great Defeated Darius easily at the Grancis because he did not make any preparations for the upcoming interaction. Darius tried to fight back against Alaxander and his armies, but t

Bucephalus

Alexander the great was a Greece king known for being a conqueror, and his trusty horse Bucephalus was a big part of that. When Alexander was 12 the horse was presented to his father, King Philip II, in Macedonia at a high price of 13 talents. As people tried and failed to mount the horse it was deemed too wild and unmanageable, so Alexanders father ordered the horse to be sent away. Before the horse was sent away Alexander stood up and challenged and challenged his father. He said if i cannot tame the horse, I will pay the 13 talents for it. Philip initially ignored his son but eventually gave in and allowed his son to try and tame it. Alexander had observed the cause of the horses wildness. The horse had been afraid of his shadow, and when Alexander positioned him towards the sun he was able to grab its reins and ride him. The crowd that had been watching this had began laughing at Alexander, but soon turned to cheer. His fathers annoyance at his son had turned to  pride over his son

cyber class review

This as been awesome. I get to wake up at 8, budget my class and the order i want to do them in, and i love having lessons in advanced. I am usually absent so i know how to teach myself things and honestly for some subject i understand it better when i teach it to myself. Who doesn't love being able to do their school work in their pajamas. I d not have to worry about how long it will take me to get ready in the morning, or laying out my cloths the day prior. My mom is a science teacher and she finished her work, so she gets really bored and makes cookies and stuff. That is really great too. I can listen to music and watch TV while i am doing my school work. I am actually listening to music while i am typing this. Aslo i do not have to carry around books, worry about when i can go to the bathroom, or being late to class. I also have quiet when i do my school work; which i do not have in some classes (not including our western civ class).

Why Socrates why

Sophists and other philosophers like Socrates might have started questioning the world because they saw all these bad things going on around them. They saw the generals put to death for terrible reasons, and they were put to death in a horrible painful way. The philosophers might have had a gut feeling that something was wrong. The society was once great, but how did it come to this. Their consciences may have been telling them not to follow the pack because what they are doing is morally wrong.  Aslo these philosophers and sophists started popping up right after their democracy had fallen apart. After the majority of Athens loved democracy and thought it was perfect it's flaws started shinning through and it fell apart. If the normal way of law was wrong before what makes the new way right, or what ensures the new way of life will not fall apart later? The philosophers wanted to find the truth in order to make a better society that will not come crumbling down because of the death

Athens struck by plague

Pericles had a plan to make Athens to ruler of the Mediterranean. All Athenians sheltered in close quarters behind city walls while the Spartans burned their farm land. Pericles reassured them and said that we can rely on the supplies brought by our fleets. One year later the fleets brought with them the plague. Because the Athenians were in suck close quarters it spread very quickly. The symptoms include but are not limited to: fever, red inflamed eyes, Diarrhea, and violent ulcers. As some citizens were extremely thirsty they crawled into the city systems and water mains to die. dead bodies littered the streets and people walked around as if they were half dead. This lead to a corruption in morals values and standards. People cared nothing for rule or religion. Why be good is the good and the bad die just the same?  This plague devastated more then one third of Athens population, and after suffering for six months it killed Pericles in 429 BC. Pericles underestimated how many things

Pericles

Pericles had three goals: to build up Athens democracy, maintain control over while still improving the Athenian empire, and to give praise to Athens. As a part of one of his goals he build the Parthenon, a huge temple to glorify the city-states patron goddess Athena. direct democracy was run by the citizens without representatives to speak for them in Athens. Athenian citizens (white adult males who owed property) gave speeches at the agora to try and persuade people to vote for their idea. They voted using white and black rocks. All the citizens involved in the voting and speech giving in the agora made all important political decisions. The Delian league was formed after Persia's defeat. It was an alliance of Greek city-states lead by Athens. They had a treasury where they could put each city-states money together. They voted on where their money would be spent when they held congress, but Pericles eventually took it over and used most of the money from the treasury for

absent

Hi! I will not be in school today as a precautionary measure duo to some recent illnesses in Maryland. Socrates looked to science and logic (not the mythological gods) for explanations of how the world worked the Socratic Method fostered critical thinking “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates was charged with serious crimes impiety (disrespecting the gods) corrupting the youth of Athens at his trial, he described himself as a stinging gadfly, and Athens as a lazy old horse did not deny what he had done; asked for free dinners found guilty by an Athenian jury, and sentenced to death by drinking poison hemlock (nasty way to go Plato  Plato was a student and follower of Socrates he wrote out Socrates’ teachings, and described his trial in Apology Republic was Socrates’ discussion of justice and the ideal state - one of the most influential books on philosophy ever written (it includes the Allegory of the Cave!) Aristotle Aristotle was a student

philosophers

Today we continued on to the three big philosophers.

Greeks Vs. Persians

gods vs. goddesses What is unique about the Greeks’ relationship with their gods is the interaction with humans Poseidon (god of the sea) interfered with Odysseus trying to return home Aphrodite (goddess of love) had lovers of both gods and men Dionysus (god of wine) was son of Zeus (a god) and of Semele (a human princess) and on and on and on... Zeus - ruler of heaven and earth; father of Athena; god of the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice.  Had a temper and was known to hurl thunderbolts. Athena: Goddess of wisdom, skill,  warfare (and peace), intelligence, battle strategy, and handicrafts. She was born from Zeus' head fully formed and armored. A special patron of heroes - such as Odysseus. She was the patron of Athens (the city was named after her). Apollo - god of music, arts, knowledge, healing, Zeus was his father, Artemis was his twin sister, he’s associated with the sun, his sister with the moon Poseidon - god of the sea, rivers, floods,

Gods and Goddesses

Today we took notes on gods and goddesses and i have been waiting for this moment for weeks. I have been obsessed with Greek, Norse, and Roman mythology for years. I read all kinds of books about it and look up all kinds of myths i do not know yet. also the other original goddess i forgot was Hestia the goddess of the hearth, or fire. She later embodied the fire and it was extremely important in the household and for social events. Hestia took care of her family and the families who worshiped her. She was known for her kindness and warmness, and because he had to stay home and tend to the fire all day she was not in many myths. She was also a goddess of maidenhood along with Athena and Artemis. She would later be replaced by the god Dionysus in the pantheon.
