Grids/timezone- multiple tests

geography - study of where things are found on earths surface and reason for the locations ask 2 questions where are people/activities on earth why are they found their map- 2 dimensional/ flat scale model of the earths surface ( key two answering previous questions) cartography- art/science of map making two purposes absolute local.- position in degrees, mins, secs of lat. and long. n/s of equator, E/W prime meridian, relative local.-  regional position/ situation of a place relative to others  communication tool to convey the distribution of human activities/physical features  latitude- geo. coordination's- specify the n/s position of a pt. on earth, measured b y imaginary line parallel to equater- measures distanced in degrees N/S of equator, E/W direction significant parallels- lines of lat.   arctic circle-166 degrees 37 min 66.57 n topic of cancer- 23,26,23.43 equator- 0 n/s topic of Capricorn- 23,26,23.43 s antarctic circle- 66,34,66.57  extra f

Location and PITIFUL MATH CONCLUSIONS.

Location - location of one place relative to another helps find an unfamiliar place by comparing its location w/ a familiar one helps understanding the importance of a location ex. some places more important bc. are accessible to other places bc. of their location you can use landmarks, streets, and buildings Singapore- center of trading and distributing goods for much of southeast Asia less expensive to build products over seize then in america bc. employees are payed less ex. in China factory employees get payed 300 dollars a month and no sick days or they get fired

SITE (Nothing but SITE)

Site - physical characteristic of a place consists of water source, climate, soil, topography, vegetation, latitude, elevation combo. of all these things give each place a specific character vital in selecting settlement local., people might disagree fr cultural reasons (what u are used to, ex. hilltop for defense from attack) lands settled on back long ago where near water bc. you could ship stuff by boat, and water access builds pop. Manhattan NY is 2x as big as it was in 1626 bc. the East and Hudson rivers were filled with dirt and soil to make land. landfill in 18th century- sinking an old ship and putting trash on top of it  ex. NY permitted  construction of Battery Park (57 hectare, 142 acre) - 20,000 housed residents, 30,000+ office jobs Bye

Evil maps game

Image
Today in class we played an evil maps game. I surprisingly figured out the North American map easily but not the South American map. Bye.

Mid-evil on Socrates strike him down with a lightning bolt

Today we went over our quiz. I got a 101, and got one point off of my essay. I got Denali right, so I got 2 extra points. Mr. Schick said i went mid-evil on Socrates talking about the gods punishing him. He said he did not want me to read it thinking i will become angry again. Imagine what he is going say to my parents tonight. They will come home with so many questions. I studied so hard for this test, and I am so proud of my grade. I had to take three test that day, and I though I bombed one but apparently I was wrong (I am so Happy). Kristo had so very funny answers for words that come from (I think) polis. I laughed so hard today, and this is why Human Geo is one of my favorite classes.

Mercator VS. Peters Maps. Who will win?

Mercator used for navigation or maps of equatorial regions  Distances are true only along the equator, but are reasonably correct within 15° either side Areas and shapes of large areas are distorted Distortion increases away from the equator and is extreme in polar regions poorest countries are near the equator so they are the smallest giving the idea that they are te least important  dramatically enlarges the size of Eurasian and North American countries never intended to be used as a wall map loxodromes or rhumb lines-lines of constant compass bearing- for true direction Makes people think the top countries are better then the bottom countries  Peters  equal-area projection  became the centerpiece of a controversy surrounding the political implications of map design areas of equal size on the globe are also equally sized on the map  poorer, less powerful nations could be restored to their rightful proportions treated each country fairly by representing area accu

Maps, Maps, and more Maps!!!!

Mercator maps (ab) used in schools, for transportation, for sailing topography map- shows RD.'s, MT.'s, all cities and states (even smallest ones) (could zoom out to show a bit less detail) curved line of lat. and longitude - looking at a little part of the map gets size wrong of countries closest to the equator the countries get countries get smaller, poorest countries nearest the equator Peters map (c) correct size of countries more accurate  as you go up on the map the longitude and latitude space between each lines gets smaller  you could flip it and it would still be accurate psychology we could flip the peters map so Australia was on top but no one would bc. its weird   Me make countries bigger then they are and they become more important to us  if countries are on the top they are more important to us- why America is on the top left hand corner and bigger then some European countries they aren't realistically bigger than

Test day

Today we took a test on everything we had learned so far (Message to Garcia, arete). It was very easy because i had studied for three days. It was everything we learned, and i am pretty sure we guessed all the big ticket items the day prior. I got to go on a rant about how Socrates was angering the gods, and named a few of them. I was way to passionate about putting a great philosopher to death. I wrote one paragraph in cursive but by the end of that i just resorted to print because in got to lazy and knew a lot o things would come to my mind way before i could write them down in cursive. That test was great, it was very easy and completely fair and on everything he had told us it would be on. I was skeptical and though he might be tricking us yesterday but he was not. I was very relieved after i was done with this test because i had three test today and think i got in the 90s on all of them, but i might be wrong. Thank you for the bonus question Mr. Schick that was awesome too

Second post 9/4/19

The worst part about high school is having to shift gears each time you move to a different class room. Also, you need to balance your school work, practices, clubs, and out of school activities.  You need to learn to manage your time well and not procrastinate on your school work. You need to find the little moments in time to take a breather and relax from all the school work and let your brain rest even if it is just for two minutes. Class  We talked about 7 paragraphs of an essay written in 1899 that was published into a book used to motivate workers who have been slacking.  The essay takes place during the Spanish American war in Cuba. The writer, Elbert Hubbard also talks about this man called Rowan who is given a letter to deliver to Garcia and does not ask where he is or anything, but goes through many obstacles and delivers the letter. This symbolizes how  people need to get out into the world, grow a backbone, and make a difference. They need to just get ther

First post

9/3/19         The best part of my first day at John Carroll was after 5th period. I went to take a locker break and opened my locker on the first try. That was also the first time I had to go from the first floor to the third. I proved to myself that I could make it from my locker to another floor and not be late for my class. I also over came my fear of going to my locker and got to stop caring a huge load of books that constantly fell. The worst part of my day was when I was standing outside of Mr. Schick's class and my ruler fell out of my math binder. When I reached down to pick it up my book fell, and just when it fell the door closed. I had to crawl through the little area between the door and the wall to get it all while balancing the rest of my books in my other hand.        I do like the seat I was given in class today because it is in the front of the room and there is not a tall person sitting in front of me blocking my sight of the board.  Also I am not by the air
